Demand Dignity

This print is a celebration of the the phoenix like efforts of so many of those who are unhoused who have been doing more than we can imagine to emerge from their plight and to also fight for themselves and each other for justice, despite the unjust treatment of the city of Fresno, difficulties in the system, and challenges that comes with being unhoused.

In 2022, the city displaced a large encampment of people, who have been displaced from location to location and had been waiting for shelter or help with housing. Despite the Boise v Martin ruling, the city stated that they didn’t have to provide shelter, because a large part of the property was private, as well as state and city land.

Homeless advocates and the people themselves, part of the Fresno Homeless Union protested for shelter and only when there was plans to protest the mayor’s press conference nearby did the city provide shelter. The HART team and city got created for providing the shelter, and some people still didn’t get into the limited shelter.
